“Diets don’t work, you gain it all back and then some”
Diets definitely work. The issue lies in the misconception that they’re temporary.
Dieting is more or less a lifelong contract. You sign up to be aware of your intake on some level, indefinitely.
Here’s how dieting works:
- You choose a diet plan. Keto, paleo, intermittent fasting, whatever.
- You calculate your bmr and tdee and set a calorie limit.
- You follow your diet while tracking your calories. The strictness and accuracy you hold yourself to is up to you, some people are able to avoid counting altogether, and some need to use an app.
- Check up on yourself. Check your weight and/or your measurements. If you aren’t losing or are gaining, reassess your caloric goals and either lower your limit or add some exercise.
- Once you reach your goal weight, again calculate your bmr and tdee. It will be lower. You cannot return to the diet you previously held. If you want to keep the weight off, you will need to eat in a range near your tdee, and check your weight regularly.
If you see a diet as a temporary fix, and think your habits can resume the same way once you’re smaller, then of course you will regain the weight and the diet will have “failed”.
Thanks for your time.
